Narendra Damodardas Modi, the 14th Prime minister of India. In the very first speech he promised to work hard and said, “When we meet in 2019, I will give you and my countrymen a report card.†Now his government has completed its first year and it’s a good time to check the progress towards that final report card.
In many ways, his economic plan is also a political masterstroke. His government has atleast given India’s GDP a bit of a boost. From 4.5% in the 2013, the growth jumped to 6.9% for the 2014. Some major initiatives that his government has taken for the welfare of people are like Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana, Clean India Campaign, Make in India Campaign and education scholarship through Pradhan Mantri Vidhyalakshmi Karyakram. But on critical issues like Healthcar, he turned sloganeer rather than strategist.
PM Modi spent 54 days while visiting 18 countries in 5 continents. The opposition back home criticised his frequent and long trips.
